Found on Miller Blue Star 2E and Roughneck welders, Case 1816 skid steers, Bolens, Massey-Ferguson, JD112 and many other lawn tractors, Coots and a myriad of other applications, I have helped get them all up and running all over the world. The TCDI is a bolt-in solution in most applications. If the engine is equipped with a charge coil (610955), it will require that I install a new coil assembly to make it compatible with the TCDI. Charge coils are found on all manual start engines, belt start engine, and some Miller welders, and some generator sets. You will notice in one of the picture the reverse side of the TCDI. In that picture, you will see a quick-connect terminal mounted to the TCDI. This is not included in the kit, rather it is taken off your failed unit and applied to the TCDI. The TCDI has been greatly improved as of late with the introduction of the TCDI II. The key difference is that the need for the protection diode shown in the first picture has been eliminated, since the circuit has been redesigned to operate from not only AC, but negative DC as well. This change makes it applicable to all models including charge coil models without further modification. Further, any stray positive voltage from a faulty ignition switch will no longer cause any damage to the assembly. Let me know how I can help! UPDATED 7/27/20 – GT14 Install feedback. Dale, I received the kit Saturday. It took very little time to install and the engine fired right up. By that evening I was back to cutting grass! This engine is on a Sears GT14 garden tractor with the variable speed drive. I use it to cut the grass around my pond. It’s still a great, useful little tractor and I’m glad to have it back running. Thank you very much for the kit. UPDATED 5/26/20 – Flat head engines require a minor notching of cooling fins that Logan is mentioning.. Dale, recd coil conversion for techumseh engine Saturday noon… Notched a couple of fins, Installed and mowed about three quarters of an acre… Hello Dale, I got the replacement coil set for my Bolens 1220 with the Tecumseh HH120 engine. I installed it this morning, it was very easy to replace the original coil, and your directions were excellent. I noticed an great improvement in the quality of the spark and the engine runs great, it was simple to line up the flywheel pins to your magnet, set the gap, and started right up. Engine runs great, I just need to do some more work on the driveshaft and clutch adjustment, then it will be ready to put all back together. I received it today and it installed in minutes, EVEN after doing the diagnostic checklist you provided. I tapped the starter and it fired right up INSTANTLY. I will tell everyone on the Terra jet forum about your replacement COIL. This is a Terra jet. It’s installed on the Tecumseh HH160. The tractor runs great again! I posted a picture of it installed on my sears suburban to a Facebook page and a lot of guys are asking about! I have a few more tractors that I’m going to switch over to your set up later this year! It has a Charge Coil under the flywheel and a SSI that failed after 25 years. Both units the Tecumseh 610965 and 610906 are obsolete and are no longer available. Got my parts yesterday and since weather cooperated today I got the coil installed. She runs like a top now. Received it installed it and tractor is back running again. Thank you very much Dale. I want to thank you very much for a great well thought out ignition system. I finally got an opportunity to install the ignition system on the tractor (this summer got busy and the tractor is located out of town). The installation went very smoothly and the tractor started up quickly, even though it had be sitting for many months. I readjusted the carburetor to lean out the idle mixture, it seemed to run better like that. There is only a fixed high speed jet so I can’t optimize that. I didn’t get a chance to run the tractor for a long period but it sure seems to start and run very well. My father has a near identical tractor with the original ignition still working. Are you going to be making these kits for a while? Also, should any of the components fail down the road, are there any part numbers you could give so I could change the bad part? I got the tractor up and running last night (Saturday 8-13-11). It was good to hear that old beast roar to life. Now if I can finish getting the rest of the mechanics running as well I will be pleased. The parts arrived today. 1 1/2 hrs later we are up and running. I used a dremel tool to grind away any fins, which took the longest amount of time. Please feel free to use me as a referral. Spark tested the unit the other day. Nice bluish spark, probably better than. Didn’t notice any problems with fit. The thing fits and works perfect. Thanks for saving these old engines and tractors from the extinction list. Yes, I did, piece of cake, went right in, no problems, started right up. I have been wanting to tell you i put the kit on my dads old tractor fired right up.
