This is a 1968 John Deere 140 H3 project garden tractor. It has a 2 cylinder, water cooled 13.5hp Yanmar diesel engine swapped in it. The tractor is pretty complete over all. It still has all of the unique, different parts the 1968 year came with. Comes with two hoods and a spare 1968 steering wheel. The rear fender pan is pretty good over all. It has one crack in the 3pt hitch gap if I recall right. Should be able to be welded easily. The pan has no pitting. The paint on the top side has been stripped. The hoods have typical damage over the front edge. It’s missing the light panel and cigarette lighter. The engine was originally brand new in crate from Yanmar about 3 years ago. It literally has minutes of run time on it. In order to connect the engine to the factory rear end and PTO clutch, two custom steel stub shafts have been machined. The stub shaft going to the rear hydraulic pump is 3/4″ diameter and the PTO stub shaft is 1″. The wiring harness is completely new. Under the forward/reverse hydro lever there’s a recessed box cut into the factory body work. Inside that the relay box and fuse box are mounted. Inside the relay box you can adjust the amount of time the glow plugs stay on. The dash has a glow plug and charge lamp pilot light added as well as period looking temp gauge to replace the volt meter. Automotive grade connectors have been used on the harness where possible. The harness needs wrapped in protective plastic conduit once finalized. The gas tank has been moved 4 back. The uprights that the grill and hood mount to as well as the dash have been raised 1. Otherwise the engine physically fits well in the chassis with those changes. I plugged the original exhaust hole already. I also have shortened the battery tray to accommodate for the tank being moved. I made a cover that bolts to the front of the engine to enclose the flywheel as well as create a mounting plate for the PTO clutch. Last time I worked on it, I was in the process of building a custom radiator to fit it. I can throw that in as well. I have the radiator mounts in place already. It needs a drive shaft ran between the pump and engine yet. The hydraulic lines feeding the control block from the pump will most likely need re-plumbed as the driveshaft will come very close to the factory ones. That’s kind of the in-depth view of where the swap is at right now. I have a video from some time ago of it running. I haven’t worked on it in 3 years or so and have enough other things I’m working on at the moment. Does not have deck or attachments, Will come with a yoke I used to check alignment. What a neat little tractor these are! It’s a Case 444 with an 18HP twin Briggs. The original 14 HP Kohler was removed. It does run and drive. I did install a new solenoid and switch. Yes it runs and drives but it is a project! Not many around here. I can store this for a while but it will need paid for in full. No mower deck or anything else, just what you see.
