After spending 25 years in the lawn and garden equipment industry, it was refreshing to find an inexpensive attachment that works extremely well. I was a walker equipment dealer for over 11 years, prior to retirement, and bolens dealer for the entire 25 years. It was only after their patents ran out that other manufactures added mulching mowers to their product line. At the time of my retirement there were no manufacturers making dedicated mulching riding mowers. Many of them would block off the discharge chute and call them mulchers. This resulted in clumps of grass being dumped on the lawn instead of a nice even dipersal of the clipping. Walker introduced a dedicated mulching deck after my retirement, so I never had the opportunity to actually try it while I was in the business. Somewhat skeptical that an attachment would do a credible job, I never the less decided to try it. I was pleasantly surprised to find that it does a very good job of mulching, with absolutly no clumping of the grass on the lawn and very little build up of clippings on the underside of the deck. There is a small amount of clippings that will get past the attachment plate and be blown into the hopper due to the fact that the plate is not sealed completely, but it is negligible. Possibly a quart in volume after cutting 2 1/2 acres. You do not have to go thru the work of completely changing the deck in order to mulch, and your wallet will love you. Obivously if you are looking to do full time mulching you need a dedicated mulcher, but for example many fertilizer companys in our area request the grass clippings be left down for 2 weeks after lawn fertilization 4 or so times a year and this method allows you to do that in a few minutes and then go on to another lawn and remove the plug for bagging. For installing it all you need to do is drill 2 holes for the screws and then – All that is necessary for installation is each time you wish to use it, slip it in the chute opening as shown and then tighten the screws, and of course to remove untighten and take out.
