I hate to sell this because I have spent a lot of time building it. This is a great 1979 John Deere 317 with a non-John Deere Loader mounted on it, a rear PTO and a John Deere 33 tiller that has been repowered with a better engine. I also have two 48 inch cutting decks and a few spare parts to include with the sale. The Loader is a Sears model 100.26230 and was built to mount on a Sears Garden Tractor. I modified it to work with my 317. I bought a new pump and new bucket cylinders because one of them was leaking profusely. I fabricated the brackets to mount the braces and the pump mount. I built it so that it can be unbolted if necessary. The loader hydraulics are independent of the tractor hydraulics. The PTO that originally drove the mower deck now drives a hydraulic pump for the loader. The loader itself operates great and the lift cylinder control has a float position which works well when you want to level something out. It works great and the tines are in decent condition but it does have a little rust on it and the guy I bought it from must have had an idiot son because he shot the tiller and the tractor with a 22. There are bullet holes in it, but the tiller works fine. It operates off of the cutting deck lift. The tiller can easily be removed if necessary. I will include two John Deere 48 inch cutting decks. One of them is in decent condition and works fine. However, the other one is in rough shape and has a binding when its turned. I’m assuming that something is broken inside the gear box. However, In order to use this tractor for cutting grass, the loader and the tiller would need to be removed. Because this is an early 317, it had the early version of the KT17 (Series I) that had lots of problems. This is the engine that had many problems. This engine smoked profusely when I bought it and needed rebuild. I opted to replace it with a 18 HP Briggs and Stratton Vanguard engine from Small Engine Warehouse. The engine came with a kit to adapt it to the 317. The replacement was a piece of cake and the engine looks like it belongs there. It fires up everytime and is WAY better than the other engine because of reliablity, weight, no leaks, no smoking and fuel consumption. Vanguard is the top of the line Briggs and Stratton engine series. There is no hourmeter but I have put maybe 10 hours on it since I installed it about a year ago. I changed the oil at approximately 5 hours. The engine that I installed is here. The rear of the tractor has 23 bar lug tires filled with water and 55 lb. Wheel weights on each tire. I installed 15 snow blower tires on the front to help grip when turning when the bucket is loaded. I also have the following electronic manuals to go with it. John Deere 317 Service Manual. Briggs and Stratton 18HP Vanguard Operator manual. Sears Loader Owner’s Manual. I hate to sell this thing but I don’t need two loaders. I have put a lot of time and energy into the tractor. It runs great and the only has two small problems. The loader control valves are leaking and I haven’t had a chance to fix it. I have a plastic ziplock bag over it and when it gets filled up, I just pour it back into the reservoir. It also has a broken headlight lens mount. I was going to glue it back together but I haven’t had a chance. Also, the seat is kinda crappy. I have another seat to go with the tractor. Other than that, this tractor is perfect. This tractor has the following factor features. Hydraulic Front End Loader. Rear Tiller with hydraulic lift. Two Tractor Hydraulic Spools. Dual Front Hydraulic Connections. Single Rear Hydraulic Connection. Total Tractor Weight is about 1500 lbs. More information on this tractor is located here (Please keep in mind that the engine has been changed).
